Meta Quest 3, Meta’s highly anticipated mixed reality headset, will “feel far lighter and thinner than the existing Quest 2 from 2020,” said Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who had the chance to test the new model.

In his latest Power On segment, Gurman detailed that the biggest changes to the headset, codenamed “Eureka,” lies in its video pass-through abilities and overall faster performance.

With dual RGB color cameras located in the front, the new device will give users a more accurate color presentation that feels like an “almost lifelike rendering of the real world.”

“I was even able to use my phone while wearing the headset, something that often feels impossible on a Quest 2,” Gurman noted.

Navigation in the device’s interface, apps, and games have also greatly improved from its predecessor, with its use of the second-gen version of software company Qualcomm’s SnapDragon XR2 chip.

Apart from performance, Quest 3 will also sport a new look. The new device will feature a fabric head strap that’s more durable compared to Quest 2’s, and a new gray face with three vertical pill-shaped sensor areas in the front.

The left and right pills indicate the color video pass-through camera and one standard camera, while the middle pill will include a depth sensor new to the Quest line.

Toggling the volume and IPD will also come easier with the new device, with a volume rocker and a wheel located conveniently in the bottom.

The innovations seen in Meta's Quest 3 set new benchmarks to influence the projects and products that other AR and VR companies develop.

While Meta has yet to decide on Quest 3’s price, insiders believe it will retail for more than $400, or a fourth of the expected price of Apple’s upcoming Reality Pro.

The Meta Quest 3 headset is slated to be announced this coming October.
