Zoom just launched AI Companion (formerly Zoom IQ), its new AI-powered assistant that helps users "improve productivity and work together more effectively" - completely free for users with paid Zoom accounts.

According to a press release, the new and improved AI Companion is an expansion of the AI tool it released in March.

This AI tool will come with new features, such as the ability to watch video recordings faster and skip to specific parts with highlights and smart chapters, and provide hosts with meeting summaries after a call.

If a person is late to a meeting, they can also catch up quickly by asking the AI Companion a question, which will provide them an AI-generated recap of what they missed - all without disrupting the progress of the call.

Other features coming this fall and in 2024 include presentation coaching, summarizing chat threads, auto-completing messages, scheduling meetings, and brainstorming.

AI Companion can be accessed from users' Zoom interface, whether in a meeting, team chat, or Zoom Whiteboard. While the tool's rollout will be gradual, select features are already available.

"Starting now, users can additionally have interactive capabilities with AI Companion via a side panel by accessing these directly within the Meetings experience," the company added.

"We are transcending the hype in generative AI by delivering tangible products and disrupting the industry's pricing model, making it easy for businesses and people like you and me to leverage generative AI's full benefits in our day-to-day work," Zoom's Chief Product Officer Smita Hashim shared concluding the statement.
