Elon Musk has announced the appointment of Twitter’s new CEO, scheduled to begin in six weeks.

Rumors suggest that Linda Yaccarino could be the one to take on the role. Musk, on the other hand, will be transitioning to the position of chief technology officer at the company.

Elon Musk's Twitter Kingdom

The Tesla CEO first teased the idea of a replacement at Twitter in December, following his $44 billion acquisition of the company, a move that raised questions worldwide. He tweeted that he would step aside from his current position as Twitter CEO when he finds “someone foolish enough to take the job.”

Musk’s time as CEO of the social network company has been riddled with radical change and controversy. Popular opinion has supported the multi-billionaire stepping down and handing over the reins to someone else.

Most recently, Musk has tweeted that Twitter is finally beginning to “roughly break even.”

Rumors suggest that Musk’s focus on Twitter has distracted him from his leadership position at Tesla, with shares in the company decreasing.

His announcement on the appointment of a new CEO came minutes before the closing of Wall Street for the day, detailing an increase of 2% in Twitter shares by closing.

Linda Yacarrino's Takeover As Twitter's New CEO

Currently holding the position of the top advertising sales executive at NBCUniversal, Linda Yaccarino has crossed paths with Elon Musk in the past and is said to be a supporter of his work.

Before working at NBCUniversal, Yaccarino spent 15 years at Turner Entertainment as the executive vice president and COO of advertising sales, marketing, and acquisitions. Known as an industry leader in the advertising field, she is also an industry advocate for finding better ways to measure the effectiveness of advertising.

However, Yaccarino has not publicly commented on the rumors. Other names are currently being thrown around as well, such as Susan Wojcicki and Ella Irwin.
