Solo Stove Gets PMG Agency After Snoop Dogg Campaign Fails

Solo Stove has recently appointed PMG as its media agency of record — a decision that comes in the wake of discussions regarding the effectiveness of the brand's previous marketing campaign with rapper Snoop Dogg.

PMG's role will encompass improving marketing efficiency and deepening the brand's connection with consumers through effective media planning and performance marketing.

Michael McGoohan, Solo Brand's chief growth officer, noted that the "hiring of PMG will help the brand unleash the full potential of our media capabilities." 

PMG CEO and Founder George Popstefanov also commented on the newfound partnership with the smokeless fire pit company.

"The Solo Stove brand and its leading portfolio of outdoor products have catapulted into the cultural conversation," Popstefanov explained.

"We want to capture that interest by pairing it with a strategic, data-informed media strategy to give it the pull-through it needs to help scale its growth through customer acquisition and increased brand engagement."

What Went Down in Solo Stove's Campaign With Snoop Dogg 

The effectiveness of Solo Stove's marketing approach was brought into question earlier this year following its campaign with Snoop Dogg, who claimed that he was "quitting smoke."

While the campaign led to a boost in brand awareness with 1.2 million brand mentions in social media posts and articles, interim Chief Financial Officer Andrea Tarbox noted that it failed to drive the anticipated "sales lift."

However, the company later clarified that the campaign was "extremely successful" in inserting the brand into cultural conversations.

Despite the debate surrounding the campaign's sales impact, Solo Stove continues to work with The Martin Agency, describing it as one of several creative agencies on its roster.

Kristen Cavallo, CEO of The Martin Agency, explained the importance of breakthrough marketing initiatives in a LinkedIn post.

"The job of an agency is first and foremost to breakthrough, in order to set a stage for everything that comes next."
