Sony has surprised fans by featuring Ozzy Osbourne in their newest ad for the just-released PSVR 2.
While people might not immediately think of Ozzy Osbourne in regard to virtual reality, Sony decided it was the perfect pair, mixing both in a new ad.
Titled “Horizon Call of the Mountain – Ozzy Osbourne vs Stormbird”, the spot shows the Prince of Darkness himself trying out the PlayStation 5’s new VR headset, amid packing for a move to London.
Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, also makes an appearance, becoming increasingly more frustrated throughout the spot as Ozzy insists on playing PSVR 2 instead of helping pack for the move.
The ad features footage of Horizon Call of the Mountain, one of the biggest launch titles for the new virtual reality headset. Call of the Mountain is a spin-off from Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West, all set in a post-apocalyptic world where robotic dinosaurs roam the Earth.
The Stormbird mentioned in the ad’s title is one of the hardest enemies in the game, a massive metal bird of sorts.
Several VR-specific games are being developed for the headset, but PSVR 2 will also be compatible with some older games like Resident Evil Village and Gran Turismo 7, both now supporting virtual reality gameplay when used with the device.
Players can also access traditional content on the headset, via a Cinematic Mode. This mode simulates the experience of a theater with a cinema screen, allowing the enjoyment of traditional games and apps such as Netflix and YouTube.
PSVR 2 was released worldwide on February 22, exclusively for PlayStation 5, at $ 549,99. The headset supports 4K HDR visuals at 120 frames per second, incorporating vibrations and 3D audio, eye tracking, and two specific VR controllers. It also features an exterior camera, allowing the user to see the ‘outside’ world without the need to remove the headset itself.
