Nokia said in a statement that the company and Samsung had signed a cross-license patent deal following the expiration of a previous agreement in 2022.

The agreement covers Nokia’s 5G inventions and other technologies, and Samsung will make their payments to Nokia in a multi-year period starting January 1, 2023.

“The terms of the agreement remain confidential between the parties,” it added.

President of Nokia Technologies Jenni Lukander said that Samsung is a leader in the smartphone industry and expressed delight in reaching an agreement with the tech giant.

“The agreement gives both companies the freedom to innovate and reflects the strength of Nokia’s patent portfolio, decades-long investments in R&D and contributions to cellular standards and other technologies,” she explains.

Just last December, Nokia renewed its cross-license deal with the Chinese manufacturing company Huawei, in which terms have also remained confidential between the two.
