Frito Lay's Doritos and alcoholic beverage company Empirical have teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind concoction: Nacho Cheese Spirits.
The new limited-edition drink will deliver a multi-sensorial beverage experience "that smells and tastes like the real thing" — only this time, in the form of an alcoholic drink.
Tina Mahal, Frito-Lay North America's Senior Vice President of Marketing, explained the company's goal of disrupting culture and bringing fans of the chip to an unexpectedly bold experience.
"We're always pushing our fans to try new things, so we figure it's time we disrupt the spirits category by offering our iconic nacho cheese flavor in a bottle," she explained in a press release.

The Makins of Nacho Cheese Spirit
To create the inventive beverage, Empirical made use of a special production process that extracted the flavor layers of Doritos Nacho Cheese, which made use of the actual chips to retain their essence.
This process involves vacuum distillation, which, unlike most distillation methods, works under lower temperatures to capture the full flavors of Doritos.
Empirical CEO Lars Williams explains that as an "uncategorized" spirits brand, the company has the freedom to experiment with flavors, without limiting itself to a "gin box or tequila box or whiskey box."
The new Nacho Cheese Spirits will be available in selected New York and California markets starting next month for $65.
