Apple is working on simplifying its virtual assistant Siri by changing its trigger phrase from “Hey Siri” to just “Siri,” along with a command.
The change was first reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman last November 2022 and was expected to be rolled out this year or by 2024.
However, a recent tweet from Gurman indicates this change might be revealed during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event.
Everyone is asking about Siri, AI and WWDC on Monday. One item I haven’t mentioned in a while has been a major project to drop the “Hey” from “Hey Siri.” I’d look out for that possibility next week. https://t.co/jGqyI54SXE

While the Siri update may be a small change, it’s a technical challenge that “requires a significant amount of AI training,” according to Gurman.
“The complexity involves Siri being able to understand the singular phrase “Siri” in multiple different accents and dialects. Having two words— ‘Hey Siri’—increases the likelihood of the system properly picking up the signal,” he explained.
The tech company is also reportedly working on integrating the virtual assistant into third-party apps and services, with improved ability to understand commands.
Along with the Siri update, Apple is also expected to unveil its first mixed reality headset, a new 15-inch MacBook Air, and deliver updates to its OS software during its WWDC event.
