Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro will have the ability to track body temperatures and check a person’s hearing health, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter, the tech journalist shared that the new hearing test feature will play different tones to allow the AirPods to determine the user’s hearing health.

Additionally, Gurman revealed that the software development company is working on adding sensors to the next line of AirPods in order to determine the user’s body temperature through their ear canal.

Some of these changes may be unveiled when the new AirPods launch alongside iOS17, with other features such as muting and unmuting during calls, Adaptive Audio, and the ability to seamlessly switch between paired devices.

“While the health features are likely several months or even years away, there will be other changes sooner,” he wrote.

The tech giant is also reportedly introducing cheaper models of the AirPods, and will make a full transition to USB-C charging ports. The release of the next models will also be tied to the Vision Pro, Apple’s first mixed-reality headset slated to be released early next year.

Last week, Gurman reported that the third generation of AirPods Pro is in early development, but as of yet, has no release date.

However, the company is focusing on its other product lines expected to be announced this fall, such as a new Apple Watch Ultra, iPad Pro, and the iPhone 15 lineup.
