Instagram is currently working on extending the maximum length of Reels from 90 seconds to 10 minutes, with internal tests ongoing.
Mobile developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi revealed the potential feature on Wednesday before the company confirmed its plans with TechCrunch shortly after.

Instagram Reels currently allows users to post videos up to 90 seconds long.
If the new feature pushes through, the platform will challenge social media rival TikTok, which also extended the length of videos posted on its platform to 10 minutes last year.
Since TikTok pushed out 10-minute-long videos, users began creating long-form content in the form of cooking tutorials, full-length podcast episodes, and short films.
Meanwhile, YouTube Shorts still allows only 60-second videos and has yet to compete with fellow social media giants in this field.
In recent weeks, Instagram introduced several new updates, including:
- Tightened user safety in DMs
- A feature that lets users add music to their image carousel posts
