Meta's Threads plans to roll out its highly anticipated web version later this week, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

During the initial launch of the text-based conversation app, many users quickly pointed out the many features it lacked compared to its rival X (formerly Twitter).

While a "Following" tab and a "follows" tab in the activity feed have been added in the past weeks, it still missed a desktop version of the app.

In response, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in early August that a web version was on its way, along with a search function.

However, last week, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri responded to a Threads user saying that the internal team had been using an "early version" of the Threads web version, but that it "still needs some work" before the company can roll it out to the public.

X Won't Load Old Images, Videos

Elon Musk's X, while miles ahead of its competitor, has not been without its own problems recently.

Over the weekend, users pointed out that images and videos from old posts were not displaying, including the iconic 2014 Oscars selfie from Hollywood personality Ellen DeGeneres.

Links to YouTube with a t.co URL were also reported as not working anymore.

Following public uproar from X users, some have reported that the image had been restored, though it remains unclear whether other media posted from 2014 will remain visible.
