Mexican fast-food chain Taco Bell has partnered with food delivery platform DoorDash to help bring Taco Tuesday to fans, completely free of charge.
In a press release on Tuesday, Taco Bell announced that it will open a $5 million taco tab to cover the orders of taco fans from "any participating vendor selling Mexican cuisine."
"Because now that Taco Tuesday is free – your tacos should be, too," the company explained.
To double down on the taco celebrations, Taco Bell will be giving away free Doritos Loco Tacos every Tuesday leading up to September 12, without a necessary purchase.
The story behind the freeing of 'Taco Tuesday'
The term "Taco Tuesday" was recently liberated from a trademark registration owned by Taco John since 1989.
"We've always prided ourselves on being the home of Taco Tuesday, but paying millions of dollars to lawyers to defend our mark just doesn't feel like the right thing to do," Taco John CEO Jim Creel shared in a statement.
Now, taco restaurants across the U.S. can use the phrase freely - and Taco Bell is ready to celebrate the momentous occasion.
"Taco Tuesday belongs to all who make, sell, eat, and celebrate tacos, and this Free-For-All will not only thank taco fans who supported the cause, but will also spotlight local restaurants and vendors who can now embrace Taco Tuesdays without fear of legal action," concluded Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell U.S. Chief Marketing Officer.
