Sprite and Complex Media have teamed up to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop in the music industry with the help of generative AI.
The marketing activation creates unique hip-hop-inspired album covers through a casual conversation with a generative AI chatbot. By asking users questions about what they most love about hip-hop, the chatbot analyzes sentiment and tone to create bespoke visual artwork that users can then download for free.

The campaign sees Complex Media, a publisher specializing in music and culture under Buzzfeed Inc., making its first foray into using the possibilities of AI for creative purposes.
The head of sales for Buzzfeed, Andrew Guendjoian, said that AI brings a personalized experience to campaigns, an approach that particularly resonates with Gen Z audiences.

Complex Media and Buzzfeed have navigated an increasingly difficult landscape within the industry, with news of Buzzfeed exploring the idea of selling the specialized publisher in the near future.
Whether the innovative partnership is a sign of long-term improvement at Complex Media is yet to be seen.
While the duration of the activation is unknown, the partnership between Sprite and Complex Media is a prime example of how creative agencies can leverage the potential of generative AI to secure sponsorship deals with global brands.
