Epic Games' Fortnite this week launched a collaboration with the beloved animated show "Futurama," which lets gamers play as the popular characters Fry, Bender, and Leela.
The space explorers are now available in the game’s item shop along with new weapons, an emote that lets you shuffle like Dr. Zoidberg, and even a Planet Express Ship glider.
“Don’t let the Island’s ancient center stop you from embracing the future: Bender, Fry, and Leela Outfits crash in from New New York! Not only are these three Outfits available now in the Item Shop, but players can also find Bender's Shiny Metal Raygun in battle,” the game developer said on its website.
The collaboration comes as the show makes a comeback with a new season on the subscription streaming service Hulu after a 10-year absence.
According to the game developer, each of the Futurama character skins comes with an alternate style paying homage to the versions that were introduced in the show’s fourth season.
In addition, players will be able to wield special weapons such as the Giant Nutcracker and Solid Gold Fiddle. On top of the Futurama tie-in, the game has also added a new gun called the Mammoth Pistol as well as reality augments for different weapons.
The crossover isn’t the first time the popular game has collaborated with some of the entertainment industry’s biggest brands and franchises including Nike, Transformers, Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things,” and Disney’s “Star Wars.”
From the mind of The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, the animated sci-fi show first aired in 1999 and quickly accumulated a cult following who tuned in for the show’s surreal humor.
