Meta's newly developed app "Threads" takes the internet by storm — attracting over 10 million signups worldwide just 7 hours after its launch on Thursday.
The announcement was made by Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, who shared the news on his Threads account.
Considered a "Twitter Killer," the app's swift growth underscores Meta's ability to attract users and compete in the fiercely competitive social media landscape.
Upon downloading the Threads app, users are prompted to link their Instagram profiles, enabling a smooth integration between the two platforms. The app encourages users to personalize their profiles and follow the same accounts they already engage with on Instagram, fostering a sense of continuity and familiarity.
Just like Twitter, users can repost and quote other Thread posts, promoting engagement and interaction. However, what sets Threads apart is its Instagram-like "aesthetic." The app also enables users to seamlessly share posts from Threads directly to their Instagram Stories.
"Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what's on your mind," Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's owner, said in a Wednesday evening Instagram post.
